Nigeria marks Sisters' Day this August, a day set aside to celebrate the women who show up for us, without condition, without hesitation. This year, Global Area Mama Initiative is asking you to show up for a different kind of sister: the women, girls, and children living in IDP camps across Nigeria, who lost their fathers, brothers, uncles, and husbands to the killings in the north, and who now carry the weight of survival largely on their own.
IDP camps give these families a roof, but a roof is not enough. Behind camp walls, women and girls are still going without sanitary pads and basic menstrual hygiene supplies. Families are still going without enough food to get through the week. Children are still sleeping without proper bedding, and without warm, clean clothing to call their own. These are not abstract hardships, they are daily realities for thousands of women and children who did nothing to deserve the loss they've carried.
This is what our upcoming intervention exists to address. Building directly on what we learned from our first outreach in Pankshin, Global Area Mama Initiative is running this campaign now, in the weeks ahead, so that when the time comes, we're not just marking Sisters' Day with words. We're arriving with food, sanitary supplies, bedding, and clothing, delivered directly into the hands of the women and children who need them.
Every naira given right now goes directly toward making that delivery possible. This is one of the ways Global Area Mama Initiative carries out its larger mission, and right now, it's the most urgent one. Your sister in an IDP camp cannot wait for the next news cycle to remember her. We're asking you to remember her now.
